My favourite holiday of the year
is definitely Christmas... why? Because PRESENTS! No, I'm just kidding - Christmas is not just about receiving and
giving gifts. It's a time to catch up with people you haven't seen in a while,
whether they be friends or family, and just relax and enjoy each others'
company (and the fact that straight after Christmas comes the Boxing Day sales
doesn't hurt either!). Christmas is also my favourite holiday to decorate,
because who doesn't love all the lights and tinsel? In this post, I'm going to
show you how to make an easy table decoration that will make the perfect
centrepiece for your Christmas dinner.
What you'll need:
- A4 sheets
- Various ribbons
- White/grey yarn
- Tape
- Thin knitting needle (mine was 3 mm wide)
- Glue
- Star confetti
- Tinsel (optional)
1. Take one A4 sheet and place the knitting needle on the corner and slowly roll it up to the halfway mark, gluing as you go along.
Or if you want the legs to be stronger (it will be less likely to bend while it is being wrapped in yarn), you can keep rolling to the end. Make sure to glue the paper as you roll.
2. Once you have rolled 3, check that they are the same length before snipping off the top at a sharp angle - this is to make them easier to put together.
3. Taking the snipped ends, hold them together in a tripod shape and tape it together. If it doesn't stand level, even out the legs by trimming from the bottom.
4. Glue a piece of yarn to the tip and start wrapping down the legs. Dot some glue onto the legs occasionally to stop the yarn from slipping. If it starts to bend inwards, you may have wrapped it too tightly and should unravel it a bit and try again. Tuck the end inside and glue or tape to secure.
5. Once you have it wrapped, you can start decorating! I made two, so one I decorated with ribbons and some tinsel at the tip, and the other with confetti. I often like to stay with a colour scheme with the things I make, so I stuck with gold for these.
And you're finished! Place these on your dining table (or anywhere else you'd like to bring some Christmas cheer) for a quick and simple centrepiece. I like to place them with lit tealights (with the usual safety precautions, of course) because the flames reflect off the gold and make them glitter - instant love! You can also make a whole bunch of these and make a 'forest'. How fun would that be?!
Let me know what you think of this DIY in the comments!
